1980-1982
Originally known as Crucified Youth, then No Age Limit, 5051 became early standard bearers for the San Diego hardcore scene. While their recorded output was very limited, they gained a steady following earning them regular opening slots for the likes of the Cramps and Christian Death.
Vocalist David Klowden initially became part of the local punk community as an assistant to Shark Productions promoter Renee Edgington who was responsible for several shows at the North Park Lions Club beginning in 1979. The venue's most infamous show, headlined by the Germs, was promoted in part by bus stop graffiti courtesy of the 15-year-old Klowden.
5051's discography was limited to a single, self-titled 7" EP recorded in 1982. Much like the Orange County bands of the day (TSOL, Social Distortion), 5051's music was angry and politically aware.
