No headersFrom the album's opening sing-song acoustic guitar notes, Anya
Marina's
full-length debut disc "Miss Halfway" musically skips across your
consciousness like a frolic in a field of spring flowers. But the joke
(and the album's depth) lies in the lyrics. With a twinkle in her eye
and a sly grin painted across her mouth, Marina sweetly sings in her
breathy, pixie-like voice (on "Clean and Sober"): I hope you choke.
As
a DJ on FM 94.9 and former host of the San Diego music show "The Local
94/9," Marina's relationships with the local music scene bear fruit on
the album's 11 tracks, co-produced by Scott Russo (Unwritten Law) and
Peter King (the Surfers and Dakoda Motor Company).
