1968-1969

The Brain Police were a San Diego psychedelic band who, despite a strong demo recording and plentiful support slots, quickly faded into history.

Guitarist Rick Randle and Norman Lombardo were veterans of the Man-Dells, a British Invasion-inspired group who released a single, "Bonnie/Oh No" in 1965 while the pair were still in junior high school.

Three years later, the pair teamed up with and formed the Brain Police, who, during their brief career, opened for the Who, Cream, Jefferson Airplane, Buffalo Springfield, the Byrds, Steppenwolf and every other show put on at the Community Concourse by local promoter James Pagni.

A promising, self-titled demo went largely unheard until an Italian psychedelic label reissued it more than 30 years after it was recorded.
