When it became clear No Knife wouldn't be recording that follow-up to "Riot For Romance," many fans -- both local and in far flung corners of the globe -- were crestfallen. Then No Knife's Ryan Ferguson emerged with a pop-tastic solo album, which lessened the sting somewhat, and now Chris Prescott is back on the scene as well with the Jade Shader, an exciting collaboration with Boilermaker's Terrin Durfey.

On its first EP, "Curse of the Tuatara," (released on Sonic Boom in November), the Jade Shader sound recalls both Prescott and Durfey's earlier bands, but with an added jazzy/lounge influence brought to the table by Prescott, a one-time music student at UCSD (see: "Scallywags"). Since forming around three years ago, the band's played gigs with Jimmy Eat World and Pinback and gotten some spins on radio.

Stay tuned for a couple of new releases from the Jade Shader, including a song on Loud + Clear Records' upcoming compilation and a split 7" also featuring Years Around the Sun, The Rum Diary, and Facing New York.
