The Adams Avenue Theatre was a local punk landmark from the late 1970s through the mid-80s. Early gigs by the likes of the Zeros (from Chula Vista), the Dils (from Carlsbad) and the Hitmakers laid the groundwork for later shows by the Dead Kennedys, the UK Subs, the Cramps and even REM (who opened for Gang of Four). It was here that Dead Boys/Lords of the New Church frontman Stiv Bators was shot with a BB gun by a fan in the balcony. The theater is now a fabric store.
