Defunct punk venue, formerly located at 3760 Fairmount Avenue in City Heights. From 1981 through 1985, Fairmount Hall featured the likes of the Dead Kennedys, Bad Religion, TSOL, Circle Jerks, X, Black Flag, Fear, DOA, Minor Threat, GBH and the Cramps.

 

Shows were put on by the late "Mad" Marc Rude (Dead or Alive Productions) and Tim Mays (Tim Maze Presents). Rude went on to do album cover artwork for the Misfits, Jeff Dahl, the Offspring, Tex & the Horseheads, L.A. Guns, Electric Frankenstein, and local heroes, Battalion of Saints.  Mays went on to open the Pink Panther bar with Peter English and later, the Casbah.

Remeber not to long ago, It was just $3 a show? Now promoters demand $5, a price too high Dead or Alive. Bands still play for the same old pay, but the guy at the door wants more, more, more. So you keep paying what they ask,supplying there drugs and beer. They all laugh behind thier punk rock mask, and tell you that they care.

Lou- what did people call that venue we played once (Injections and Personal Conflict)- like an empty bookstore right next to the Brass Rail (one of the gay bars in Hillcrest by the chicken pie shop)?

Marc and I needed to raise the price to $5 to pay for our private jet... Seriously, it's not like we made any money -- Dead or Alive was always a slightly less than break-even proposition.
