The Skinny The Casbah has been open since 1989. The first location had a legal capacity of 75 and hosted such bands as: Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Lemonheads, The Jesus Lizard, and Rocket From The Crypt. In 1994 the Casbah moved just down the road to a larger, venue. The new location has a capacity of 200+, there is an enclosed smoking patio, a back room featuring pool tables, pinball, the classic video game Galaga, and a full bar. There is also a music room with a full bar and a state-of-the-art 24 channel Yamaha, JBL, QSC, Crest sound system. Some of the bands that have played at the Casbah's current location include: Boss Hog, Alanis Morissette, Morphine, the Amps, The Breeders, Elastica, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Royal Crown Revue, Supersuckers, Ben Harper, Liz Phair, G Love & Special Sauce, Social Distortion, The Cult, and local acts such as Rocket From The Crypt, fluf, Drive Like Jehu, Three Mile Pilot, Creedle, the Rugburns, Tanner, Blackheart Procession, etc.. The Casbah features live music at least 6, often 7 nights a week with cover charges usually varying from "$0 to $10". Patrons must be 21 with a valid ID. Hours are 8:30pm-2am. When inside There's a full bar, little tables around the dance floor you can perch at until your rump begs you to reconsider, and a whole outdoor patio area where people tend to congregate, smoke and nonchalantly compare nose rings. The whole scene's a gas. In San Diego, rockin' the Casbah really means something. |
