This Wild Weekend involves friendly fire from fast guitars and AquaNet girl vocals from songwriters Maren Parusel and Kelly Alvarez, the only original members now making up the punk-pop quartet. The group insists we share its PSA (punk service announcement):

"Wild Weekend is no longer just a Zeros tribute band."

Yes, they spent a year riding a style chain going back to The Ramones, The Ronettes, some surf bands, the Go Go's and, of course, Chula Vista's minimalist punk rockers The Zeros. But Wild Weekend is recording all originals this fall.

And now your rock 'n' roll history moment PSA:

Maren fell in with former Zeros bassist Hector Penalosa, in the band Squiddo. Last year, she organized a tribute to her three-chord forebears, borrowed a name from The Zeros' song "Wild Weekend," and scared up an all-girl lineup.

But Maren's group plays those power chords at a faster tempo, and even Baba Chenelle, the Zeros drummer, is said to envy their quickened pace. But you know how drummers are.
